Control deflection for precise calendering and extrusion.
High nip loads and wide webs can cause standard rolls to bend, leading to uneven product thickness. EDRD® (Enhanced Deflection Reduction Design) rolls incorporate engineered cores, optimised shell thickness and support structures to reduce deflection by up to 40% compared to conventional designs. This helps maintain parallel nip and consistent product dimensions.
When to choose this roll
- When standard rolls deflect under your required nip load.
- When calendered or extruded products must meet tight thickness tolerances.
- When you want to minimise the need for mechanical roll bending.
- When you process wide webs or thick materials.
- When downtime from uneven wear is costly.
How it works
EDRD® rolls use finite-element optimised core geometry to increase stiffness where it matters most. Reinforced webs inside the roll and variable shell thickness counteract bending moments. By distributing load more evenly, the roll face remains flatter under pressure. Engineers model each roll based on your operating conditions to achieve the desired deflection reduction.
Where it pays off / Applications
High-pressure calendering of plastic sheet, rubber and composites; sheet extrusion; metal plate flattening; anywhere deflection affects product quality.
